Wormfarm Institute’s award-winning Farm/Art DTour (October 6-14, 2018) is a 50-mile, self-guided drive through scenic working farmland of the driftless area of Sauk County, Wisconsin—punctuated by site-responsive art installations, pasture performances, roadside poetry, local food, and more. Now celebrating its seventh year, it remains free of charge to visitors from near and far.

After an open call, drawing 60 proposals from eight countries, and a lively exchange among a jury of arts professionals, six artists were selected to create work for the 2018 DTour. This page provides a preview of David Sanchez Burr’s installation nowhereradio. Help us keep the DTour free for thousands by making a donation today!

The Farm/Art DTour is part of Fermentation Fest – A Live Culture Convergence.

A participatory solar powered soundscape, nowhereradio invites visitors to broadcast their thoughts and ideas to the air from a central sound booth. Weather balloons tethered to radio receiver modules transmit audience interventions, sound art, and narratives from local residents.  Performances by the artist are scheduled throughout the course of the exhibition. Sanchez-Burr’s work frames maintenance, generation, and decay as necessary for sociopolitical change. nowhereradio speaks to democratic concepts and aims to foster the exchange of ideas.

David Sanchez Burr: “A community is a multifaceted and pluralistic concept. Out of the term come many interpretations and concepts; within a community exist members that share definitions of their space as well as differences in opinions, politics, social beliefs, and culture. nowhereradio is a place where commonalities and differences will be expressed with the intent to highlight the importance of dialog and to generate understanding and debate of various viewpoints.”
