Family Business Destroyed by Irma

Donation protected
In 1957 my grandfather established the Angler's Motel and Marina (later renamed Outdoor resorts of Chokoloskee) with his bare hands. This business has been in our family for decades and currently is in the hands of my uncle. I grew up working and running this place since I needed a ladder to reach the cash register, and have many fond memories while doing so with my family. Unfortunately, due to Hurricane Irma, our family business suffered devastating damage and is in need of major repairs in order to reopen. The storm surge quickly engulfed the office and motel in a matter of hours. The water reached about three feet inside the buildings leaving behind a thick layer of mud, and a costly path to rebuilding. As shown in the pictures, the marina amenities were destroyed (fuel pump and fuel drum, shrimp pen, ice machines, fish cleaning station, and storage shed), the office was destroyed and had windows busted, and the motel has to be completely gutted and rebuilt on the inside. Due to the damages, we do not have any revenue from the business to help with the repair costs. Our family simply does not have enough money on hand to cover these damages and have no choice but to seek alternative methods. If you are able to help us, it will be greatly appreciated. Even if it is only one dollar, you would be helping a family get back up on their feet and keeping the family business for generations to come. Thank you and God bless you.
