Families affected by severe floods Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil

Hi, my name is Jonatan, I am currently living in Dublin but originally from Brazil, specifically from Rio Grande do Sul. I am on behalf of a group of people (@sosrs.ie on Instagram) doing as much as we can to help all families affected by floods in our state.

Is with our deepest sadness that we are trying to reach out to you for this big campaign.

In recent weeks Rio Grande do Sul (Brazil) has been battered by severe rains that have led to the biggest ever flood in the history of the state. The storms have affected more than two-thirds of the 497 cities and in some cases it just washed whole cities away leaving more than 150,000 people displaced where hundreds of those are missing and countless of death. The floodwaters have overtaken towns and villages causing extensive damage and loss. “The flood is not over yet. The river will continue to rise because it depends on stopping rain throughout the whole basin in order to drain the water into the ocean” says the Environmental Engineer Iporã Possantti from UFRGS.

For you to have an idea on the size of this catastrophe, Rio Grande do sul is almost the size of Italy so it is as if the whole Italy was under water.

The funds through this campaign will be donated to entities which are actively involved in critical relief efforts to the well-being of the victims. They are working hard to rescue people and animals, preparing and distributing meals and water, offering shelter to displaced families, supplying necessary medications and also for those who need to rebuild their entire houses and belongings.

Every small donation is a step closer for saving people and animal’s life and also a huge help to rebuild houses and bring their life back.
