Faith Holt's Medical Fund

In September of 2011, Faith, my sister-in-law, was diagnosed with stage 3A ductal carcinoma breast cancer. During the 5 months following the diagnosis Faith endured 12 doctors’ appointments, one ultrasound, one mammogram, one biopsy, two MRI's, two CT scans, one bone scan, one heart scan, one mastectomy surgery with a port inserted and 10 lymph nodes removed, 8 chemo treatments and 8 immune booster shots. This left Faith out of work for 5 ½ months and accrued astronomical medical bills.
In September of 2012, after a year of intense treatment, emotional breakdowns, side effects including decreased usage of her extremities, mouth and throat sores, extreme fatigue and body aches, and breast reconstruction surgery, Faith, Mike, Julia and Allison resumed their normal lives and were glad to have all of this behind them.
In January of 2017, Faith was ecstatic to be celebrating 5 years cancer free. However, in March of 2017 Faith had her annual mammogram which showed 3 masses that did not look normal. In April of 2017, they performed a diagnostic Mammogram and ultra sound of the suspicious areas. Later in April, the masses were biopsied and all three came back positive for mixed ductal and lobular carcinoma. The cancer has returned on the same side as the previous breast cancer. On May 16th, Faith had surgery to have the reconstructed breast tissue and the cancerous tumors removed. This procedure required such an extensive removal of tissue that the surgeon did not feel that the area would be able to be closed without taking a skin graph from Faith’s back. During the process of trying to close the surgical incision, the surgeon felt another mass under the pectoral muscle and removed it just to be safe, the mass was 4 cm and the pathology came back showing that the mass was also positive for cancer. Today, June 15th, Faith will begin 3 months of chemo again followed by 6 weeks of radiation. This will put Faith out of work again for at least 6 months and will build another huge medical bill.
Mike is a registered nurse who is the network manager for a home health care nursing company and Faith is a physical therapy assistant. Their daughters, Julia, 14 and Allison, 13, are active teenage girls.
