Anitta's European Adventure
I am Nicole Nixon and like many of you I am also a working mother ( 2
sons and 2 daughters). I too want nothing but the best for my children.
However, sometimes, LIFE gets in the way.
My worst nightmare
was realized last year, when my 16 yr. old Anitta Nicole, a junior in
High school, was diagnosed with a degenerative eye disease. Eventually,
barring a miracle the disease leads to significant vision loss.
Imagine this happening to anyone you LOVE, especially your child;
initially, I was devastated. I had to quickly come to grips with the
diagnosis and accept the reality before me. Being petrified and sadden
wasn\'t going to change the situation.
Of course, I am
prayerful that within the next 3-5 years, research has discovered a
treatment that would minimize or eliminate any loss of vision for
Anitta. Until then, I can\'t pretend there\'s no reason for alarm, so I
have to push on, and do whatever I can for her while she is able to see
all of us clearly.
For now, she takes advantage of the joys
and shake off the pains of life. Shuffling in self-pity is not her way.
She remains optimistic. At this point in there life, education is at
the top of things to do list. She is determined to be another achiever
and success story regardless of her circumstances. Just as you wouldn\'t
want to stand in the way of your child\'s success, I don\'t want to block
my child\'s road to success as well.
As I hope you would do in this same situation, I am reaching out to my family and
face-friends for help in sending Anitta to Europe this summer; she was
chosen to be part of the people to people student ambassador program.
It was an honor to be chosen because not everyone can go.
No one knows the future, but you are definitely forced to contemplate and prepare it when you are faced with adversity.
I am asking for financial support to help send Anitta to the ambassador
program. If I have 100 Facebook friends and you have 100 family members
and 100 face-friend books, and so and so on you can see where $5-10
from each can get us that much closer to our goal. By no means, do I
want to bring about any inconvenience into your lives, but there is
truly strength in numbers. Therefore, it really only takes a little, to
help a lot.
Thank you in advance. I really appreciate your
support, and I am sure this won\'t be the last time we pool together to
help each other; when YOUR time arises I will do the same.
