Help for Charlene

I am setting up this GoFundMe account for a dear family friend, Charlene Smith. We have known Charlene for 16 years. Her mother took care of our daughter, Claire, when she was a baby. For several years, Charlene took care of her aging mother until she passed away, making it necessary for her to go on public assistance. Let me tell you about Charlene’s incredible story and why she needs our help.
Charlene is 60 years old. At age 16, she dropped out of high school to care for her older sister’s children. Eventually, by the age of 21, she was caring for four children. Those children are now all grown with children of their own and even now those children have had babies. One of those babies is now 6 years old. Her grandson and his wife could not care for this child so Charlene, the saint that she is, swooped in and took over care of Adrian. Doctors do not know the extent of his medical issues due to his mother’s drugs and drinking during her pregnancy. The child has emotional problems due to abandonment issues and chemical imbalances in the brain.
So where are we now? Charlene is on public assistance, which doesn’t pay for much. It pays for part of her rent and some food (food stamps). What it doesn’t pay for is car insurance, utilities, gas, clothing, and everything else one needs to take care of the basics in life. Now, Charlene’s car with 180,000 miles is dying and she has no money to fix it. For her to get her grandson to all of his psychiatric appointments, school, and to give her some freedom to see family and take care of her life, she desperately needs a vehicle. She needs $3,000 to fix her car and pay for insurance and gas. But she doesn’t have anywhere near that kind of money.
We are hoping to give her the best pre-Christmas present of her life, a safe working car. It doesn’t sound like much but to her it’s a lifeline. Charlene has stepped up and cared for so many children in her extended family. She always puts herself last which is one reason she is in such a dire situation. I feel it is time for her to be taken care of. Please give what you can. Charlene has rescued so many people. Let’s rescue her this time.
One last thing. When I told Charlene that I wanted to set up this campaign for her, her response was very characteristic of her generosity and selflessness. She said “I feel funny asking for money when there are so many people who are less fortunate than I”.
