In early July 2014, Roel noticed what felt like a piece of popcorn stuck in the back of his throat.  Within a couple of weeks, it increased in size causing obstruction of his airway and affecting his speech.  Thinking it was an infection, he was placed on antibiotics with no significant relief.

After following up with his doctor, they realized this was a solid mass.  He was then referred to an Oncologist for a second opinion.  After a CT Scan, PET Scan, Biopsy, and bone marrow asperation, he was diagnosed with Stage II Non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma on September 26, 2014.

Non-Hodgkin's lymphoma is cancer that originates in your lymphatic system, the disease-fighting network spread throughout your body. In non-Hodgkin's lymphoma, tumors develop from lymphocytes — a type of white blood cell.

According to the National Cancer Institute, with modern treatment of patients with NHL, overall survival at 5 years is over 60%. Of patients with aggressive NHL, more than 50% can be cured. The vast majority of relapses occur in the first 2 years after therapy. The risk of late relapse is higher in patients who manifest both indolent and aggressive histologies.

Within the next few weeks, Roel will be undergoing treatments of chemotherapy and radiation therapy in MD Anderson in Houston, Texas.

Undoubtedly, this will create a loss of income as he will not be able to care for his patients at his assisted living and home health facilities .

Let's help Roel and his family take the stress of worrying about the expenses.  Join the cause in the fight against cancer and donate!  "Doo it...doo it now!"
