Ellen Maureen Urick passed away the night of December 5th, 2014. She brought light and love into the lives of her family members, friends, friends of friends, neighbors, and anyone she met.
Ellen was a wonderful mother, daughter, sister, aunt, and cousin. She loved movies, the cosmos, dancing, laughing, and spending time with those she cared for. Ellen loved more unconditionally and fiercely than anyone could fathom. Her laugh was boisterous and even in her hardest times she found light, love, and happiness. She always wanted the best for those she loved, no matter what. Despite struggling with mental illness, she always gave all the happiness she could to anyone around her. Her smile and laugh were strong and never faltered.
Growing up I remember her soft words and understanding. She was hard to make angry, and always gave us the kindest and most gentle reprimands. Making alfredo pasta was our tradition, talking about life, and appreciating the wonders and mysteries of it. She was always there for me, my sister, and for all of us, regardless of what directions we took or what happened in our lives. She loved going to the movies- she loved the stories and the art it took to create the magic of them. Disneyland really was her happiest place on earth, the Matterhorn was her favorite ride. She always had amazing stories of adventures growing up with her brothers in Europe, and her time as a Ballerina living in the big city of New York. Her eyes always lit up when she talked about her life and the people in it that she loved more than anything else in the world.
Ellen’s struggle with mental illness and her heart arrhythmia has come to an end and she is now at peace dancing among the stars that she admired so. I know that she would not want us to be sad. Ellen would want us to love her for her clear and bright soul and live our lives the best we can. She always lived her life to the fullest she could and would want us all to do the same. I urge you to please seek help if you feel you or someone you know may be suffering from mental illness. It is an invisible and possible life threatening issue that goes ignored far too often.
Your donation to this fund will directly help our family pay for her service this Friday. Any amount helps greatly.
Please come and honor our mother with us this Friday December 12th at 11am. Both her service and reception are open to anyone who would like to attend.
