Guy Martineau needs our help!!! My name is Jake Martineau and Guy is my dad. Yesterday afternoon, my dad was surfing and suffered a very serious injury to his neck. The doctors determined that he had fractured his cervical spine, or in simpler terms, HE BROKE HIS NECK!!! Despite this injury, which was extremely painful, my dad was still able to muster a smile as he always does!!!
My dad was surfing at Carlsbad beach alone when he was thrown from his board, headfirst, into shallow water. He hit his head which was forced into his neck area and He was nearly knocked unconscious. My dad is very tough, and actually attempted to drive himself to the hospital, but could not. He called his girlfriend Jenn to come get him and she took him to Scripps ER in Encinitas.
After arriving, CT scans were taken and my dad was quickly transferred to Scripps La Jolla trauma center In San Diego. The surgeons told us that my dad is EXTREMELY lucky that he was not paralyzed. For that we are SO VERY grateful!!!
My dad will be undergoing a four hour surgery at 4pm today to repair the fracture. Please pray he has a successful surgery and quick recovery!!!
My dad has NO medical insurance through his employer. He is a brick mason, and will be unable to work for at least 3 months after his surgery. He applied for emergency Medi-cal in the hospital, but was denied.
This is a MAJOR surgery so the costs are going to be staggering. The funds raised here will be used to pay for my dad's medical expenses and basic living expenses while he is out of work.
