DIXIE'S EMERGENCY SURGERY

As you may remember from our emergency newsletter, two weeks ago, we rescued Dixie, a very pregnant hound from a HIGH KILL shelter down south. She was a hard working hunting dog, who thought she had a home, but when she became PREGNANT, she was ABANDONED to be killed.
On Saturday morning, after a GRUELING 24hrs in labor, we realized there were MAJOR COMPLICATIONS. We rushed Dixie to an EMERGENCY veterinary hospital. The vets discovered that one puppy had passed away inside of her, and was blocking the other puppies from being born, causing Dixie to become sick with an INFECTION.
We were RUNNING OUT OF TIME, and the ONLY OPTION to save Dixie and her puppies, was to perform an emergency C-SECTION. Dixie and her pups made it through the surgery with each pup needing to be manually resuscitated after surgery.
However, after they were all discharged, one of her puppies was struggling and had to be rushed back to the vet. They kept her overnight but she, unfortunately, passed away. Dixie and her 4 surviving puppies are currently stable and recovering in their foster home.
We are so glad we were able to save this amazing mom and her babies! However, In Our Hands Rescue is having a hard time recovering from the financial burden of this emergency care.
