Donna Merlo Stem Cell Transplant

A retired nurse, Donna is much more comfortable caring for and helping others than she is asking for help. However, after years of helping others, Donna now needs our help. She would never say that or ask for help herself, but as her family, we will ask on he behalf.
Donna had been enjoying retirement for a little over a year when she noticed she was feeling unusually tired and out of breath. She proactively scheduled a blood draw; the results were life-changing. On November 9, 2017 Donna was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia with Myelodysplastic Related Changes; AML with MRC, for short-- a blood cancer. She spent 58 days in the hospital, receiving chemotherapy treatments and blood and platelet infusions.
Those carefree days spent enjoying retirement are in the past as Donna now spends each day living with cancer and fighting for her life. She has stepped up to this challenge with her usual grace and fortitude, her sense of humor and positive attitude remain intact. Anyone who knows Donna, knows she is a fighter. The reality though, is that she needs a stem cell transplant. The medical team has found a donor match for her but the sum for this very serious procedure is enormous. Donna is fortunate to have health insurance and while it will cover the actual transplant, there are aspects of her care and recovery (co-pays, medications, medical supplies, transport etc) that are not covered by insurance. This is where we can help.
As previously mentioned, the cost of the transplant and care are enormous, so we are setting up this fundraising campaign to make a contribution to offset Donna's out of pocket expenses. On behalf of those who love Donna, please consider making a donation and spreading the word. Donna is an amazing woman. Let's help make her road a little easier and less stressful. Every ounce of energy she has must be directed toward fighting for her life. All donations will be transferred directly to Donna. Any funds raised in excess of what is needed to cover her care will be donated to the Leukemia and Lymphona Society (Lls.org).
