Help the Pateros Fire Victims

Spende geschützt
Let me paint you a picture.  Those of you who are from small towns will get it.  Pretend you live in a small town.  When you live in a small town with 1200 people in it, there is very little housing.  There might be a couple of houses for sale in your town.  You will be lucky to find a rental house in your town.  The people who live there, have lived there a long time.  Now pretend a fire comes quickly through your town and your county and burns up 350 homes.  Burns them to the ground.  Maybe you were home and you had a few minutes to gather some things and make a run for it.  Maybe you had a moments notice and you left with the clothes on your back.  Maybe you were fighting fire at another house while yours was burning down.  Maybe you were out of town that day and saved nothing at all when your house burned down.  This is what happened to our friends in Pateros and the Carlton Fire Complex.  350 homes burned. 350 families without a place to live.  Being the small town that it is, there were not many homes available to the fire victims to move into.  Some people left.  Moved away.  Far far away.  Some people are staying with their neighbors.  Some are staying with their family.  Imagine moving yourself and your 3 kids in with your family who already has 3 kids and a couple pets in there 3 bedroom house.  COZY is a good term.  How long do you think you could live all COZY like that?    Say you have property but you don't have a house, or a shed, or a tree, or anything at all on your property that was just months ago a FLOURISHING beautiful piece of ground you called your home.  Many of these people are living in tents on their property.  This is pretty great if you enjoy camping.  I like camping.  I don't like camping in a tent for more than a few days with no power or sewer or water to take a shower.  That is not fun.  But MANY PEOPLE are doing it right now.  Not because it is fun but because they have nowhere else to go.  Think about how great it will be to live in a tent when the weather reaches below freezing.
Guess who is NOT helping these people.  FEMA is not coming in to rescue anyone.  The government is not lending any hands.  Our own communities are helping these people.  The neighbors and friends of Pateros and the Okanogan County have opened their hearts and their wallets to help people they don't even know.  When a disaster happens in a rural location, it affects people for miles around.
For the past several weeks I have been collecting cash donations to buy travel trailers to donate to families with no where else to live.    I have raised over $15000.00 to purchase trailers.  They are not the Taj Mahal of trailers but they are functioning, with a generator, a bed, and running water.  If I got to choose between living in a tent and living in a trailer like that, I think you know what I would choose.  This mission started out with a few friends and I collecting donations, we made enough to buy a trailer, we took it to Pateros and gave it to a man who had been sleeping in the park.  After that we found other people who had trailers that they wanted to donate themselves.  Through my resources in Pateros I found them a family to donate their trailer to.  Once the trailer is donated, that family can do whatever they want with it.  They can live in it until they find real housing.  They can sell it and take the money for a down payment. They can keep it forever. Hopefully they don't live in it forever but they can if they so desire.   It is THEIR trailer.  Right now between the donations I have collected and the trailers other people have donated we are currently working on our 12th trailer.
The reason I am starting a GOFUNDME plea is because there are many people out there who have not heard of this or who don't know how they can help and it's an easy way to spread the word via facebook or e-mail.  It is much easier to use your card instead of a check to make a donation to the trailer fund.  I promise you that any money that comes to this fund will go directly to a fire victim.  We are researching other options for housing now that it's getting cold out.  There are many summer homes in Chelan that might be empty for the winter months and if we can get the owners to rent them to some families they will need rent money.  Remember these people lost EVERYTHING.  People who had no insurance are left with nothing at all.  People who did have insurance may be getting a new home but you know it won't be ready to move into before the snow flies.  We are trying to help ALL of the victims.  Please help me, help them.  If you know someone who can donate $50 or $100 please e-mail this to them.  I will try and keep you updated as we progress.  If you know anyone with a trailer they would like to donate to the cause, please send them my way and we can find you a family to put in it.  THANK YOU
