My name is Jessica Rush I'm a fashion design major at Genesee Community College located in Western New York. I was raised in South Carolina and I'm in my second year at GCC. Anyone who knows me knows that I adore fashion especially South Asian clothing. I love yellow, Vogue India, laughing and doing things that make a difference in this world.
I am raising money to go to my dream college! I was just recently accepted into Koefia Academy located in Rome, Italy. I have always wanted to study fashion while living in Rome because it is rich with culture. I know you may ask, why Rome? Honestly, I know that life is too short to live with regrets and If I didn’t at least put my all into going after my dream I would always ask myself, why.
Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
3 years ago when someone asked me this question I was unsure of how to answer them. My life has been filled will ups and downs and to call it a rollercoaster would be an understatement, though I have always been passionate about being creative and expressing myself through fashion, through obstacles in life I lost my desire to succeed. So when my counselor through a transitional living program for homeless youth asked me “where do I see myself in 5 years” I responded “ somewhere, hopefully”.
For most of my life I’ve lived in and out of shelters and transitional housing programs for youth. Looking at my family and their history I realized one thing. I realized that life is full of choices, I can choose to be bitter about my mother being an alcoholic and not being there for me throughout my childhood. I could choose to let me not meeting my father until I was 14 hold me back. But at the end of the day at some point we have to decide how we want our story to end. That’s why I am reaching out to all of you!
My goal has always been to study fashion. Though I want to be a fashion designer I’ve always had a passion for different cultures, societies, different societal structures and this what I want to incorporate into my idea of fashion. As a student studying at Koefia, I feel that my appreciation and realization of other cultures is something that I would uniquely bring to the academy. I know that fashion isn’t limited, it reaches all over the world, taking influence from all cultures and ideas and this is the brand I hope to develop.
The funds will be used to help pay my tuition and living expenses for the duration of my Bachelors program. I will need all the funds by September 2017. I know that that deadline is incredibly close but this means so much to me I know that this is a once in a lifetime opportunity that is being afforded my way, please help me in this endeavor! Of the 20,000 I am raising I would need $10, 000 for tuition and the rest would be used for living expenses.
Some of my goals are to own a fashion magazine that celebrates women of all races, ethnicities, and sizes. Alongside that I want to have my own clothing collection that embodies culture and glamour. This opportunity would open up the door to my future. Words cannot express nor can words describe how thankful I would be.
Also in addition to this I have included my list of achievements and awards.
