Hi there. My name is Alyson. In June of 2018, I will begin celebrating my 50th year by making a coast-to-coast motorcycle trip across Canada. I’m calling it the Explore My Nation trip and I have a Facebook page and website set up for people to visit and follow the trip as it progresses.
The last few years have brought the loss of loved ones and the heartbreak of seeing the deterioration and suffering of friends and family around me that have meant so much to me over the years. And so I began to think about making this trip while I still have health and energy. I almost gave up the idea on budgeting for bike modifications, accommodations, food and survival gear for this adventure. Then one of my very best friends told me the story of her daughter’s presence at the October mass shooting in the US and how close she came to losing her life. That was truly a moment of clarity and I decided I was going to make this trip even if it means I pay for it for the next 5 years. Life can change in the blink of an eye and, as the saying goes, most of us only regret what we didn’t do.
Then someone suggested a Go Fund Me campaign. Like everyone else, I’ve helped a lot of people in my 50 years and I am hoping that a little karma might come my way to help out with this grand adventure. What’s in it for you? Well, you can share the adventure on my website at exploremynation.ca! I will be blogging the trip as I go and sharing adventures and photos and information on the history, industry and tourism of the areas I visit. There are tons of great causes out there besides this self-indulgent one of mine, but if you think it’s an awesome idea and want to be part of it, I would be very grateful for any contributions towards it! I will be doing my very best to reduce living expenses and keep costs to a minimum for the trip, and if, by some freak miracle, contributions exceed my needs, the remainder will be donated to charity.
