Mark Gallant Proton Cancer Trtmt

Hello, my name is Polly Topp. I want to introduce you to one of my dear friends Mark. Mark is a fun-loving, kind hearted friend, single father of a beautiful daughter Areanna, and only son of elderly parents. Mark survived several bouts of a hereditary colorectal cancer, but now the illness has returned and has also impacted his urinary system.

Prior to getting his test results that his cancer returned, little did he know there would be additional hurdles to jump over. His father was diagnosed with Dementia and had to be put in a nursing home, leaving his mother in Georgia to take on additional responsibilities alone. Then, he received a horrifying phone call from overseas that his only daughter Areanna, who is attending college in Italy near the Vatican, was jumped and brutally beaten by 3 adult males. She was rushed to a nearby hospital and was in critical condition. Although he was struggling financially, as any father would do he took an emergency flight to Italy to stay by his daughter’s side during her recovery.

Next hurdle for Mark: he is ready to beat this cancer! After much research, he found that Miami Cancer Institute, offers an Advanced Proton Therapy which is a one-of-a-kind, advanced treatment form of pencil beam scanning (PBS) technology, and is proven to be extremely effective for colorectal patients. After his physician consultation which communicated proven outcomes, he made the decision to move forward with the treatment plan. The only roadblock was the fact that Proton Therapy is still considered by Health Insurance companies as Experimental-Investigational and is not a covered benefit. Without the Proton Therapy, Mark is uncertain of what lies ahead for him. Therefore, he persevered, and is now starting week three of the five week course of treatment. After the Proton Therapy, he will have more chemotherapy to follow. Aside from the enormous out of pocket expense of his Proton Therapy, this treatment is only available in a city 4 hours away from his residence and too far to make a daily round-trip; even if the treatment were available nearby, he would be much too ill to make such a trip. In addition, he is paying for his apartment at home, and on top of that, housing near the hospital, all while not earning any income. We are hoping his employer will continue to supplement his health insurance but that is not a given. Our friend is going to beat this disease! Hopefully, he will not need to sustain a horrible surgery that will result in him having to wear two colostomy bags outside his body for the remainder of his life.

On behalf of Mark, his loving daughter Areanna, his parents, and all his many close friends, we are kindly asking if you could find it in your hearts to donate whatever you can afford to take some of the financial burden off his shoulders so he can concentrate solely on getting well and back on his feet.

Thank you for your kindness and support of a truly wonderful man.
