Stronger Than Cancer- Jessica’s Fight

On May 31, 2019 I got a call I never thought I’d get, especially in my 30s. One of my best friends had been diagnosed with breast cancer at the age of 33. No one ever deserves to go through this, but it seemed that this was an especially cruel joke as the diagnosis came just 30 days before her wedding day.

Jessica and Brian’s wedding day came and was stunningly beautiful. Although they had to cancel their honeymoon, they were ready to start their lives together and she was ready to fight! Chemo treatments started quickly after the wedding and she has successfully completed three sessions. It’s going to be a long road, but it’s off to a good start! 

Jessica DeStefano is a loving friend, daughter, and wife. As an incredible teacher she has dedicated her life to her students. She deserves all the love and support that can be given to one person. However, Jessica is hoping that she can actually love and support others battling cancer as well, by raising funds for cancer charities. To support her and her fundraising efforts, I decided to set up this page and to run races (and fundraise) as she focuses on fighting cancer! Eventually, Jess will decide which charities she would like to donate to,we will keep you updated! She may also choose to use some money for herself in case expenses start adding up (I’m encouraging her to do this!!). The first run will be a 3.5 mile UMass Cancer Run on September 22, 2019. After that I will be running the Newport Marathon on October 13, 2019!! And then the Providence Marathon on May 3, 2020!!! She inspires me to keep going every single mile and I cannot wait for the day that she can run with me again. Let’s kick cancer’s ass!!!
