Dear Friends & Family,
It's with great sadness that we let you know our lovable and iconic shitzu, Chico, has fallen greatly ill and is currently in the ICU at Verg Animal Hospital.
Chico, who is usually healthy and puppy-like, began to show questionable breathing symptoms on Saturday night and was immediately taken to the emergency hospital by his concerned moms, Jen Jinx and Verduch. After several tests and x-rays, the doctors concluded that he was sick with a common dog flu. He was given an aggressive treatment of antibiotic injections and then sent home with his family.
Sadly, Chico's symptoms didn't seem to improve the next day and at around 3am on Sunday, he suffered a very scary seizure. Verduch rushed him back to the hospital where the doctors suggested Chico stay for 2 days for observation and more testing.
That brings us to this morning (Monday). Verduch received an urgent phone call from the ICU at Verg. They had assigned one of their top doctors to Chico's mysterious case. He called with the news that Chico has pneumonia and could be septic. He is very ill and likely in a great deal of pain and discomfort. The hospital team wants up to 4 or 5 days to continue testing and to get Chico back on the road to health.
At this point the doctors at Verg are trying to identify if there is cancer or other underlying health issues at play.
Unfortunately, at a time when Chico's health should be the only concern, issues of financing his treatment have weighed heavily on Chico's family. The hospital bills are adding up, and the cost of Chico's treatment will surpass $5k. Jen and Verduch have already paid close to $1k from their own pockets in the last 2 days, and have had to charge over $2,500.
They have reached the end of their ability to pay for Chico's treatment.
In a desperate attempt to help lessen the financial burden and maybe alleviate some of the stress associated with these sudden costs, I have started this campaign.
I'm writing this with great concern for Chico, who I strongly believe can beat this diagnosis, but also for his mom's who urgently need money to pay for Chico's extended stay and testing.
Please please please consider donating any amount you can to Chico's fund, and help us spread the word!
