Hi all, we set this page up for support for Exercise Mountain Storm 2023, a 6-day, unsupported, expedition through the Canadian Rockies with the Royal Air Force Air Cadets.
This expedition has twice previously been awarded the Shackleton Trophy, which is presented to the best overseas expedition in the Cadet armed forces
There are 22 of us aged 16-18 , from the South West region travelling out in late July , for a little over 2 weeks in total , and what makes this trip different from many others is that we are planning and running the whole thing ourselves! A very daunting task! We fly out to Canmore, AB and after a few days acclimatisation and Bear aware training, we head out into the Nordegg Wilderness area for a 6 day, 90km trek across the mountains.
On our return, we hope to pack as much in as we can such as white water rafting, mountain biking, biathlon training , via ferrata just to mention a few. Everyday , one of us will be tasked to lead the expedition , having responsibility for the activities of the day, the finances and transport. Our aim is to come back with a real experience of leadership, some real life experience of responsibility in an environment that is well beyond our comfort zone, and of course to have fun and bond as a team.
How can you help me? As you can imagine , the amount of clothing, equipment, flights and funds needed to run such a trip is enormous and we are asking for any financial help you can give in order to help us reach our goal. You will be involved in an exciting and significant journey in the cadets' personal development.
