Evin's Voyage Around the World

Dear family and friends,

For my Fall 2018 semester of Junior Year of college, I was accepted to study abroad overseas with a program called Semester at Sea. Starting on September 9th I will be Embarking on a cruise-sized boat for four months with around 600 undergraduate students from across the nation. With this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity I will get to be completely immersed in different cultures all over the world. I will be traveling and studying for 107 days; it is one complete semester while at sea covering 20,000+ nautical miles, 13 cities within 11 countries on 4 different continents.

I will be taking a full semester of transferable credits to go towards my home institute at University of Hawaii. While on the boat I will be studying in 5 classes (15 academic credits) while participating in extracurricular activities provided. The World Odyssey will port in each country for up to six days. During this time, I will have the chance to apply everything I’ve learned in my classes to real world situations in various cultures, communities, and cities worldwide, an opportunity few ever experience.

This world desperately needs us, and I want to dedicate my life to make the biggest positive impact on this beautiful planet. Traveling is the key to peace, it generates awareness, acceptance of differences, and makes people understand the unknown. I will be able to bring more understanding and knowledge back with me to share and educate others. While on the boat,  I will be keeping a vlog about all the different experiences and life lessons I am learning along the way. I will also be sending out emails to update everyone on my journey after every port, and will send you postcards from my destinations!

Doing this international study program is not sponsored by my University and therefore I will not be receiving the same financial aid I am currently getting. One semester of tuition with Semester at Sea is approximately my current cost of  an entire years tuition. I am currently signing up for as many scholarships as possible but they are not guaranteed. This is why I am reaching out to you for help!  Please consider making a donation of any amount to help me go on this voyage of a lifetime.

The excitement of this voyage keeps me up at night, planning, researching, watching videos and happily accepting all the hours my job can give me! Thank you for helping this dream of mine become a reality. I am so appreciative to all the people who have helped me get where I am right now, and to the people helping me get to where I need to be so that I can gain the skills to give back to our precious, beautiful planet.

Thank you so much
