Everest Charity Walk April 2021

Hello all!
To those who don't know me, my name is Emily, and in April 2021 I am embarking on a 14 day trek up Mt Everest to reach its glorious base camp.
Now you're more than likely reading this and wondering how does a trek up Everest relate to this organisation that I have selected as a charity to raise money for. Well, it's simple, I'll tell you. Hold onto your hats ladies and gents, this'll be a wild ride.
Now, for those who don't know what AXIS is or does, allow me to give you a brief run down: AXIS is a support and counselling service based in the historic town of Shrewsbury, their aim is to provide support and counselling services to those who have been affected by sexual assualt, rape and various forms of abuse from ages 11 and older. You see, I came to know about AXIS counselling services after being subjected a henious crime by someone I knew all to well, to put it simply I was raped by my then boyfriend.
I won't go into the details of what happened that night, but alas, it was a night that would change me forever, and would leave me reeling from its affects many moons later. I was referred to AXIS by my local police force and from there my support and journey of recovery began.
From the moment I made contact with my Independent Sexual Violence Advisor (ISVA), the whole process of how the police would be conducting their investigation was explained in a thorough manner, but in a way that I would be able to understand, as well as the support services they could provide me with.
This organisation has been around for at least 20 years, and the work they do is extraordinary and unfathomable. These ISVA's and counsellors are there for members of our society, many of whom you might just know, and some of these people have stated that they are only still on this earth due to the work the AXIS do.
So, as this concludes, I shall leave you with some facts: every 1 in 4 women are raped or sexually assaulted and subsequently every 2 in 3 men are affected by the same henious acts: an act against a human being that is more disgusting than murder.
I, for one, don't know where I would be without the support of this organisation, and this why I want to raise money for AXIS counselling, and I aim to do this by treking up Everest in April 2021 for 14 days. These donations help them to continue to provide the services they have been providing for society, for as long as I've been alive.
