ESSAY ASSAY is a pilot program from the nonprofit organization, ONE UP ALL Foundation. The program is launching in select high schools in New York City and Newark NJ in fall 2023.

We are asking for your help with startup funding.

BACKGROUND:

When the Supreme Court eliminated race as a consideration in college entrance, they struck a blow against the advancement of underserved individuals and communities.

The action of the Court and the ongoing actions of the GOP to undermine diversity, equity and inclusion will have immediate and long-term consequences - if not challenged on all levels.

That, at a time when the Covid pandemic’s impact on reading and writing skills especially among public school students has been profound.

Four-year degree holders earn $1.2 MILLION MORE on average over a career than the noncredentialled. Clearly, higher education matters.

WHAT IS ESSAY ASSAY?

ESSAY ASSAY is a FREE PROGRAM offered to college-bound public-school juniors and seniors.

The goal is to help these students submit the strongest possible college entrance essay via a professional-volunteers expert review.

The College Entrance Essay has never been more important. It is the only post-high school metric that can help improve a student's chance of college acceptance. Reference Letters, extracurricular activities, and legacy status being others. Even aptitude tests like the SAT no longer carry the same weight at some schools.

Submitted essays are viewed by business writing professionals. There is no writing or re-writing by Reviewers. Essays are reviewed only once. Reviewer comments are sent to the student’s school counselor for follow-up. There is no interaction between reviewer and student.

WHO ELSE IS INVOLVED?

ESSAY ASSAY has generated welcome interest from Adelphi University and local Black fraternities.

The program is co-sponsored by the WRITING FOR BUSINESS Lesson Series. They are providing the technical platform for operation ESSAY ASSAY.
