Erik Garcia needs our support

Erik checked himself into the hospital on Sunday, November 22, 2020. After experiencing a list of symptoms, he just knew something with his body was off. After running tests in the ER, they quickly suspected it was Acute Leukemia. He also found out that he was anemic. It's been 6 days and he's already had several blood transfusions and a bone marrow biopsy. They've confirmed his diagnosis of Acute Myeloid Leukemia. Adult acute myeloid leukemia (AML) is a type of cancer that progresses rapidly, with myeloid cells interfering with the production of normal white blood cells, red blood cells, and platelets. AML is a cancer of the blood and bone marrow.  Needless to say, the doctors have to act fast and begin chemotherapy treatment immediately.  

Erik had just moved from Denver, Colorado back to Miami, FL to help take care of his mother, who is also not in great shape and requires a full time caretaker.  He wanted to help relieve some of the stress that his dad is under, taking care of both his wife and
aging mother-in-law.  Erik recently got a new job in Miami but his health insurance benefits had not kicked in yet.  Treatment for AML can get extremely expensive - possibly hundreds of thousands of dollars - so Julie and I are asking everyone who knows him, and even those who don't, to help him out in any way they can. 

Erik has always been someone who will drop everything to help out his friends and now it's our turn to help him.  We are raising money to help him pay for his living expenses, and to help him offset the cost of his insurance and medical treatment.  Getting him on a good insurance plan ASAP with a wide network is going to be key to making sure he can see the right doctors.  While Erik still has a job, he may not be able to work as much while he is undergoing treatment.  Literally any little bit you can contribute is so helpful to him and appreciated by those who know and love him.  This is obviously a very scary time for Erik and his loved ones, and it is made even more difficult by the fact that he is alone in the hospital, with no visitors allowed, due to Covid-19 restrictions.  Please help us take this financial stress off of him so that he can focus on his recovery. Erik is beyond grateful for all the love and support he's received so far from people reaching out to him and keeping him company via facetime while he's been stuck alone in the hospital.  It has truly touched him to see how many people he has by his side rooting for him.
