Erick is an 8 year old boy who was diagnosed with a rare form of childhood cancer, called Embryonal Rhabdomyosarcoma. He has undergone 2 extensive surgeries to remove the larger tumors, including the largest one that was in his testicle. He has now gone through about 6 months of chemotherapy, and just started radiation on February 11, 2021. One of the chemo medications he was on caused his liver to shut down, and he became very sick, and needed to have a drain put in his abdomen to get the free fluid out. Another chemo medication he has been taking has affected the nerves in his legs, and he is not able to walk normally or put his feet flat on the floor, so he has to walk "tippy toes first". Another chemo medication he just started is an oral type that tastes so bad that it is hard for him to take without vomiting. All of the chemo and radiation makes him nauseas. We have been driving back and forth to CHOP (1.5 hours away from home) on Mondays for chemo, and now have to drive there every Monday through Friday for the next 4-6 weeks for radiation. We pay many copays for his medications, and in the beginning we paid medical insurance premiums. We have also not been able to work as much due to his appointments and also the surprise hospital stays from the chemo affecting his body, and now we will not have any income for the next month to month & a half since we will be unable to work, driving to CHOP every week day. We are struggling to pay our bills & buy necessities, and are using what we have saved to pay what we can. CHOP social workers & other amazing community members have been super helpful to our family and we are truly grateful, though for a family of 7 there is only so much people can help with. For these reasons among others, we are asking for donations to help us get through these hard times. Once we are through with all of this and back on our feet, we would love to give back to the community in any ways we can.
