Erica is one of the most beautiful, strong and courageous women I have ever met. I have the pleasure of not only having her as a sister, but as a best friend, and there are two wonderful children that call her Mom. Last March she called our family with the most devastating news. At just 39 years old she was diagnosed with an aggressive and rare form of ovarian cancer that had already spread throughout her ovaries, abdomen and colon. After months of agonizing chemo treatments and fighting for her life, every penny that they had was spent to give Erica a chance to make it a little longer and it worked... For 3 months... After just 3 short months in remission, Erica called a couple days after Christmas letting everyone know that the cancer was back and has already spread throughout her colon, abdomen and is surrounding her liver. The doctors have not come up with a new treatment plan yet, so a lot of the future is still unknown.
For those that don't have the pleasure of knowing Erica, I have to share the reason for all this. SLOTHS!!! Sloths are her favorite animal and what keeps her going day to day. Before starting chemo, we took Erica on a quick 3-hour trip up to Atlanta to a small animal park where she can see a sloth, behind a cage, but it was better than nothing. Then throughout chemo I bought her every sloth item I could find to keep her motivated and happy. Sloth socks, sloth mugs, sloth post it notes, and the best purchase was a sloth bookbag from her husband!
Now here is where I need your help. There is an ultimate Sloth VIP experience in Orlando Florida, 9 hours away from Erica's home in Alabama. While her time here with us is not guaranteed, one thing is for sure, this would most definitely be a trip of a lifetime for her.
The $2,500 that we are trying to raise would cover the cost of getting to Orlando, staying over a couple days to relax in the sunshine, having the day of her life at the VIP Sloth Experience, as well as, all the sloth souvenirs her heart desires.
