Erica Collins's Sendoff
Hello, as you know my mommy, Erica has had many set backs over the last 15 years. It is with heavy heart that my family and I are creating a GoFundMe page to help raise funds to enable us to give my mother the send off party, memorial and resting place she deserves.
Erica grew up in South Minneapolis and spent many summers with family in Lisbon, ND. She studied hard and earned her nursing degree and spent many years helping families in the Minneapolis community. She selflessly raised two amazing kids, Candi and TJ and has 2 granddaughters Maddie and Abbie, who she absolutely adores.
15 years ago, Erica was in an accident by being in the wrong place at the wrong time that set off a chain of events which has deprived her of the future she envisioned and deserved with her family and friends.
Erica has been in and out of hospitals with numerous illnesses and 80 + surgeries to continue to patch together her frail body.
Erica's husband Sam is unwavering in his devotion to her and has spent all of his time and resources making her as comfortable as possible while remaining in her home where she would much rather be.
Erica is currently at the University of Minnesota hospital. (again) She is in a high flow oxygen room because her lungs only have a 10% capacity. She is suffering from Interstitial Pulmonary Fibrosis and Emphysema.
She is alert, witty and her "snarcastic" self. That is what makes the next part so hard to say. Erica most likely will not leave the hospital due to her dependency on the high flow oxygen. Doctors say Erica is terminal and her timeline is not known but will be short. The doctors have no plans to continue any additional treatments, they are just making sure she has enough oxygen to keep her comfortable and alert.
We are hoping to give Erica the memorial she deserves. If you have the means and would like to help us with the huge cost of everything involved with end of life, please donate here. We are forecasting it will cost about $7,500. ALL proceeds will go to memorial/funeral costs and anything leftover will be donated to the U of M medical center in Erica's name.
