When Bad things happen to good people.

I am Jean Haller, owner of Journeys of Life and friend of Diana Paar. She has worked for me for several years and I have learned of her commitment to help people find their way, what ever that may be. I do not know Eric as well but do know he is a kind and caring man who has helped a lot of people in their spiritual quests.

Diana Paar and Eric Canali (aka Earrach Of Pittsburgh) are good people.  They have been partners for 23 years.  He is an ordained senior priest of ADF, an international druid church and is the founder of Sassafras Grove, ADF.  Diana’s spiritual practice includes honoring the Ancestors, Nature Spirits and Shining Ones – primarily focused on the power of our land and our blessed rivers.  Both have been active for 30 years in local & national pagan communities.  Eric has worked as a technical support rep for a world leader in speech communication devices for those who can't speak.  Diana has worked in various positions throughout her adult life and has been a professional intuitive counselor for several years working at Journeys of Life which is where I met her.

In 2012 Eric was diagnosed with Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia and began chemotherapy.  He was able to maintain his full time job, weathered paying high insurance deductibles and go on temporary disability when in active chemo.  Diana continued to work and help Eric maneuver the medical system.

Over the past few months Eric developed Warm Autoimmune Hemolytic Anemia as a result of the CLL and his health and stamina has declined over the last three months.  His ability to work diminished as did his income.  Yet Eric and Diana had some savings and were able to keep up with regular costs of living.

Monday July 3rd their lives changed.  Eric was admitted to Jefferson Hospital with an adverse reaction to the anemia treatment.  By July 6th he was diagnosed with a fungal infection in his lungs and brain, transferred to Allegheny General Hospital, underwent brain surgery to relieve the pressure from the abscesses and has been in the hospital ever since.  While he had a momentary spike in clarity after the surgery he has since been fighting constant complications.

Diana has been at the hospital at Eric’s side since July 3rd, unable to work herself.  Eric still has partial benefits through work but for a limited period of time.  At this point there is no timetable as to when Eric will be able to leave the hospital and begin rehabilitation. Bad things have happened to these good people.

Their savings will pay the bills for a few more months but will then be depleted.  The funds raised here will go towards paying their mortgage, utilities, uncovered medical expenses and general living expenses.  Anyone who knows Eric and Diana know that they do not live an extravagant lifestyle.  They are simple good people.  Anything left over will be used to augment their savings so when the insurance deductibles come due again they will have the means to pay them.

So many people have asked how they can help.  Now is the time. Diana did not want to do this but realizes she must.  This is not easy for her and she waited until it was absolutely necessary to ask for help in this way.  This is the reality of their lives right now.  All money raised will go to an account administered by Diana for their expenses and Eric’s care.
