Kennie

Tax deductible
Hello everyone! Kennie here aka River. I was recently brought to Colorado from Utah. The Mile High Weimaraner Rescue took me in thinking I was a Weimaraner but found out quickly I was a Silver Lab. My foster family has been calling me River. My fur is the color of river rocks. I have been in foster care since Dec. 6, 2019 because I needed some TLC prior to finding my forever home. Thats why I am here today to ask for some help. I have racked up some vet bills and the rescue needs your help. My story is below so you can get to know me.
I came to Colorado from a shelter in Utah, where I was turned in as a stray. I was shared with the rescue, and since I'm weim-colored and adorable, the rescue said, "We'll take him!" I had been on the streets for who knows how long, and vomiting in the shelter, so I was very underweight. A vet visit as soon as I made it to Colorado showed us I had severe pneumonia, and we quickly discovered I was vomiting which was not the case, but a condition called megaesophagus. This was a familiar word but unfamiliar condition to us, so we got me into a foster home in Fort Collins to see the experts at CSU vet clinic ASAP. Megaesophagus is generalized enlargement of the dog's esophagus and a decrease of motility. Basically, when I eat, the esophagus can't contract to move food into my stomach, so I regurgitate the food that sits there. The sphincter at the top of the stomach doesn't tighten up all the way to keep the food down. To fix this, I am on a medication, eat food in meatball form, and sit upright in a special chair for 30 minutes after each meal. This condition is completely manageable, just requires some planning ahead for mealtime!

My Fort Collins foster parents work regular jobs, so they were not able to be home with me during the day, so I moved to a foster home where my foster mom works from home. She was able to experiment with some feeding techniques and supervise me throughout the day until we landed on the meatball shape. I do not like being in a kennel, but I am  housebroken and non-destructive. I like to play with toys, and I am friendly with most other dogs. I do not like to share attention or food, so as long as I get my own time I'll be a happy camper! I walk very well on a leash, and ride nicely in the car. I have no interest in cats, and  friendly with humans of all sizes. We are working on not jumping up on people and surfaces, especially because the bouncing back to the ground can cause  me to regurgitate. I sleep with an airline neck pillow on to keep my head elevated, which is a huge help!I also love to snuggle. I've been given the title of best snuggler ever! Please consider a donation so the rescue may continue to help other dogs in need.
Since I have  been able to keep food down, I am getting healthier and showing my lab puppy energy! My fur is filling out and getting softer, along with my eyes getting clearer, and  have a tail that never stops wagging. I'm a very sweet, happy guy that wants to be your best friend.

Want to join me in making a difference? I'm raising money to benefit Mile High Weimaraner Rescue, and any donation will help make an impact. Thanks in advance for your contribution to this cause that means so much to me.
