Ephemerisle 2019: Swimming Tree
Donation protected
The Arts and Entertainment District of Ephemerisle is seeking funding to support a living tree installation. The Swimming Tree will grow from a floating platform that will sit at the center of the Arts District and act as a swimming dock. During the day, swimmers will relax on cushions under the tree’s shade. At night, lights will peak from the canopy and create a quiet and magical place.
This art piece will be designed for repeated use at multiple events. The wooden platform will be approximately 14 feet in diameter and will be buoyed by dock floats. It will be designed to hold 10 people comfortably. All wooden pieces will be sealed for long term water resistance. The tree will be 12 feet tall and will be chosen using recommendations from a local Delta tree farm for compatibility with the Delta’s environment. The soft lighting placed within the canopy will be passively solar powered.
Funding will go toward purchasing and transporting the tree, dock float purchase, anchor purchase, and scrap wood sourcing. A breakdown of costs is included below:
Living tree: $1200
Dock Floats: $480
Anchors: $220
Lighting: $100
Platform Wood: $600
This art project will be part of the larger Arts and Entertainment District of Ephermerisle.
