120 Students & Their Families

Tax deductible

Life Compass needs your help to serve 120 students and their families in Kankakee, Illinois over the next 12 months.

DEADLINE: September 1, 2018

[Update for August 2018 - A generous donor has agreed to match your financial contribution today. Every dollar you contribute will be doubled.]

Pastors Ken and Esther Tueck, residents of Kankakee, started Life Compass with one mission in their minds: Bring hope and joy to students in their city (located 60 miles south of Chicago) by providing access to music and art education. They named this program, “Exploration of Arts” or "EOA" for short.

What’s unique about Exploration of Arts is we provide classes at ZERO cost to the students and their families. And, the students keep their guitars, drums, keyboards and violins as a gift at the end.

Ten years ago, we gave away art classes to eight kids in a humble basement. In the 2018/2019 school years, we plan to serve 120 students, across 13 different areas of study.

HERE'S WHY WE NEED YOUR CONTRIBUTION

As our programs become more effective, we must meet a greater number of needs.
We’re not only ministering to 120 students through Exploration of Arts. We have an opportunity impact whole family units in Kankakee. Ministering to a student opens the door to develop a relationship with their entire family.

This is a welcome challenge, but we need your help.

We need your help to…

#1) Serve Students –
Your donation will help purchase needed musical instruments and supplies for art, sewing, cooking, and robotics classes.
#2) Serve Families – Your donation will also go towards LC Youth, Celebrate Recovery and other programs that minister to individuals and families.

Life Compass desires to see our building full at least 5 nights a week with children and families from the all over our community (many of whom have never set foot inside a church).

A FUN WAY TO RAISE FUNDS;

LIFE COMPASS’ 9TH ANNUAL CENTURY BIKE RIDE FUNDRAISER

For the last 9 years, a few dozen bike riders have committed themselves to raise money for our Exploration of Arts program. They will do this again on the Saturday of Labor Day Weekend, September 1, 2018 by riding up to 100 miles.

Everyone is welcome. We do encourage Riders to help raise funds, but we don't require it. The ride begins in St. Anne, Illinois at 5:00AM and ends around 4:00PM. The LC Century ride is segmented in 25-mile loops, with breaks in between, making it accessible for people of all fitness levels. Riders can participate for any amount of miles. This is not a timed race. It's an act of solidarity and symbolism that we will 'go the distance' for the community of Kankakee.

HOW TO DONATE

#1) Make a general donation on this GoFundMe page. Any amount helps: $1, $10, $50, $100, ...or, even $1,000.

#2) You can sponsor an individual LC Century Bike Rider. Donate  $1.00 or more per mile. Or, donate  a fixed amount for each Rider you sponsor. To do this, make your donation on this GoFundMe page. Then, select the Rider who referred you on the check out page.

Rest assured that your funds would be handled with the utmost integrity. Life Compass is registered with the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) as a 501(c)(3) religious not-for-profit. All your charitable donations are tax deductible.

Contributions via check may be mailed to Life Compass Church, P.O. Box 2200, Kankakee, IL 60901.

OUR MISSION:

Life Compass Church's mission is to provide quality education of the arts, technology, and home skills to the community in a Christian environment.

Exploration of Arts (EOA) is unique community-focused ministry of our church. We offer this free program to provide opportunities for young artists and innovators of our community to develop in a Christian environment. EOA has been serving Kankakee County for 10 years offering group lessons in Guitar, Violin, Piano, Drums, Art, Theater, Dance, Cooking, Robotics, Sewing and ESL (English as a Second Language).

At Exploration of Arts, students work together in small classes to advance their understanding of the arts and sciences.

AT THE END OF EACH YEAR, STUDENTS PARTICIPATE IN A RECITAL IN FRONT OF THEIR FAMILY, FRIENDS AND PEERS.

IN 2016, WE ADDED ROBOTICS, COOKING AND SEWING CLASSES.
