EntitleDID to Life is a conference located in California that specifically for people with dissociative identity disorder and OSDD. This GoFundMe has been set up to help people who can’t attend for financial reasons be able to go. Dissociative Identity Disorder is a trauma based disorder that exclusively impacts people who endured a traumatic childhood. This disorder causes symptoms that force the people who have it into isolation. They live a life filled with symptoms, flashbacks and amnesia. Often misunderstood and mistreated by the medical community, people who have who have dissociative identity disorder go much of their lives without having the support of someone who understands them and never meeting another person like them. People with this disorder are called systems and have several identities (or personalities) sharing the same body. Finally, an event exclusively for these forgotten and abused people is taking place. Tragically, due to the illness - it’s symptoms and comorbid disorders, many systems can not afford to attend the event. The funds collected by this GoFundMe account will fund the tickets and help with expenses of 10 systems who applied for sponsorship to attend. What will the donations cover? The organizers of this fundraiser (aprilhijacked) and (ourdissociatedlife) have worked with Toi Magazine, who is holding the event, to secure 10 tickets at a discounted price to help our cause. The people who receive the tickets will be randomly selected from a list of sponsorship applicants. The funds collected will go to cover the cost of their tickets and their lodging. We’d love to blow the top off this goal and be able to help with transportation costs as well. When we do exceed the goal we need to meet – we will use the remainder of the funds to purchase additional tickets for systems that applied for the sponsorship. We, as a community, sincerely appreciate any amount given. Systems out there need the support that this conference can provide. They deserve to be together to feel in person solidarity for the first time. Learn about the online community that deserves to be together face to face As one of the most marginalized and stigmatized communities, they continue to persevere. Finding community online and starting a movement to be better understood, the systems that want to go would finally be able to meet face to face with the people they support daily from a distance. All donations, even the smallest one, make a big difference to us. What started out as a girl making a video about her life with dissociative identity disorder turned into a global movement to be seen and heard as multiples. After Multiplicity & Me had the courage to stand up and speak out about living with this disorder, people who had been hiding in the shadows for their whole life felt seen. At this conference, the people who felt seen will have the chance to meet the person who gave them that gift. As people continued to feel seen, they felt inspired to share their story about living with dissociative identity disorder. Since the disorder impacts each person differently, talking openly about it online was the first time many of them felt validation. And that validation spread like wild fire thanks to systems online across the globe. Online every day they use their collective voice to end the stigma around dissociative identity disorder. Together, they support and care for one another from a distance with live streams, discords, group chats and local meet ups. They’ve found a way to continue to build each other up, no matter what they face. They’ve opened up and let the world see what it’s like to live with dissociative identity disorder. Together this community has an immense amount of courage. They fight to lift up their own voices even though they have never felt safe being heard before. And this conference could bring them face to face with their support system and the people who brought them together. Once we raise our intended goal, all extra funds will be used to purchase E-Tickets for the conference for other systems that can not attend in person.
