Enrique's Journey

Donation protected
It all began February 11, 2020 when, Enrique’s wife Kandi called 911 and he was rushed by ambulance to the Emergency Department at St. Joseph’s hospital.

What Kandi and their kiddo Kam thought was a migraine or the flu, turned out to be something much more sinister and life changing.

Enrique was admitted to St. Joseph’s Hospital and spent six days in the ICU and four more days inpatient Med/Surg. After a battery of scans and tests they discovered a rather large mass and a significant brain bleed.

Enrique underwent a partial craniotomy to remove the mass and help alleviate the pressure on his brain. They get the pathology reports Friday Feb 28, 2020.  Enrique was discharged into his families care with the expectation that he is to be supervised 24 hours a day 7 days a week due to his brain trauma. ( for at least 3 months )

Although he is strong and willing to do the work, Enrique has a long road to recovery.  He has what is referred to as global-aphasia and poor motor planning.  Global aphasia is a severe form of nonfluent aphasia, caused by damage to the left side of the brain, that affects receptive and expressive language skills (needed for both written and oral language) as well as auditory and visual comprehension.

He also has a lack of motor planning. Motor planning is the ability to conceive, plan, and carry out a skilled, non-habitual motor act in the correct sequence from beginning to end. Examples would be cooking, taking medication, doing anything that requires a sequence in daily life.
His wife Kandi has been by his side from day one and is taking wonderful care of him. They’ve been married for over 17 years. Kandi was working full time and going to school to further her career in healthcare management. Due to this life changing emergency their priorities have been forced to shift on getting Enrique well. Kandi had 100 hours of paid sick leave saved up and has already used 60 of those since the day he was admitted.
Kandi’s job is to take her husband to multiple doctor appointments, cook for him, make sure he takes his medication every few hours as needed, drive him to his occupational therapy and a myriad of other duties. Kandi is my sister/best friend for over 25 years and to see her, Enrique, Kam and all of their loved ones enduring this is nothing less than heart wrenching and inspiring all at the same time. He couldn’t have hand picked a better caretaker than her, and she couldn’t have handpicked a more determined patient than him.

Enrique is one of the sweetest most genuine man I've ever known. He’s gentle, kind, giving and  funny! He is also an ARMY verteran as well!

This is the family that needs our help and dare I say 100% deserve all the love your willing to pour out to them.
Enrique is an amazing husband, Dad, Son and friend.

The gifts you give will go towards the following:

Medicine, lost wages, medical bills, gas and all those bills that stack up when you're forced to choose between your work or your loved one.

Thank you in advance for taking the time to read this, if you’ve made it this far, we love you! All prayers are welcome and needed. Kandi will take the reins and keep all of you updated on his Journey to what we hope will be a FULL recovery!
