Saving Megan Vu's Spinal Injury

Donation protected

Whether you’re a stranger, friend, or family member I want to express my deep gratitude for taking a peek into my beloved sister’s story. Just like you, Meg has fought to pursue her passions in sometimes not the most ideal environments. From 10 years of chronic back/hip pain where a single sneeze took her out of commission for months to commuting 6 hours roundtrip for a county job everyday. Just like you, life has tested her 10x over and more. Fast forward a few years later and she found her true love in content creation and coffee.

Some of you may know her as the ultimate admin boss babe of Kevin Le Vu Photography or perhaps you’ve tuned into her coffee journey at BLKCITY Coffee Roasters as she personally roasts each bag to order. All in the world seems lighter with this clear direction of something that brings fire to her soul, even her chronic pain fading into the shadows. Until December 31, 2020. A New Year greeting as unwelcoming as it is haunting.

On the morning of December 31, Meg was involved in a near fatal accident  from mountain biking with her husband, Kevin, at Santiago Oak Regional Park. With adrenaline pumping through her veins and the cheers of fellow mountain bikers surrounding her, she plunged down a steep boulder feature that would change her life. At the bottom she was thrown from the handle bars, landing on her head and spine. Upon impact, her cries were more than enough to plainly state that something was terribly wrong. Kevin frantic to help, knelt beside her to offer his love and support, heartbroken at his wife’s state of distress. Air Ambulance flew in immediately to air lift her to the nearest hospital where all her hurt was on display.  Upon arrival at the trauma center the doctor sent her to X-Ray, CT Scan and MRI.  This revealed our nightmares of a fracture at the seat of her neck (C2), only 1 cm away from complete paralysis, a serious spinal fracture (T7) shattering it into 3 pieces requiring critical surgery, and to top it off 2 broken ribs.

Spinal Fusion surgery was the only option and on January 2, the surgeons cut into her spine. There they placed 9 titanium screws, a plate, and artificial bone to stabilize her spine. More hardware than any loved one wants to be apparent in their sweet girl’s back. Resting and recovering, she’s learning how to cope with 2 heavy duty braces strapped to her back and neck.

Enough is enough. My sister has suffered enough and this is my call to action.

If you could please stand in power with me in saying that Megan Vu deserves to live a beautiful life and consider donating to her recovery fund. All donations will go directly to paying the mounting medical bills ranging from hospitalization, air ambulance, medication, equipment, and long term recovery. Let’s get this brave woman back on her feet and pursuing coffee, content, and whatever else her heart desires.  #megvustrong

All my Love,
Jenna Pangan
