Engineering Study Abroad in Costa Rica
Donation protected
Hi, my name is Alice Owens, and I'm a freshman at Rice University. I plan to major in Mechanical Engineering and pursue minors in Engineering Design and Business.
To this end, I will be studying abroad in Costa Rica in June 2022 with faculty from the OEDK (Engineering Design Kitchen) and a group of 10 other students from Rice. I will be completing two courses over the 4-week program, which are both required courses for the engineering design minor. The classes will include working with medical professionals in Costa Rica to identify problems with existing devices, identify areas that can be improved, and then create prototypes to be tested in medical settings.
I currently attend Rice as a financially independent student and receive scholarships, as well as having a part-time job to fund my college degree. Unfortunately, Rice's financial aid does not cover summer programs, so to attend this program, I have been applying for scholarships and working extra hours as a lifeguard at Rice. Through this, I have saved enough money to cover most of the tuition expenses of the program.
However, I still need your help. I need to fundraise to cover additional expenses associated with the trip, such as travel expenses, food and program fees.
Any donations you can make would be much appreciated and will go directly to covering trip expenses.
If you would like any further information about the program, it can be found at http://oedk.rice.edu/iseed
