Saving Thunder
Donation protected
This past July we got our dream family dog, a Rottweiler named Thunder. He has brought so much love, warmth and joy not only to our home but also to our hearts. A week ago we took him to the vet thinking he had hurt his leg while at doggy daycamp but instead we got the news no one expects to get. He was diagnosed with hip dysplasia. When we asked the severity, we were told that they have never seen a case this severe in a 5-6 month old puppy. His hips are barely in place and his right hip is dislocated. For the next few weeks before his consultation for surgery we are giving him joint supplements, Gabapentin for pain, NSAIDs for inflammation and he will start Adequan injections. The surgery he will undergo is known as FHO or Femoral Head/Neck Ostectomy. This is where they will cut off the femoral head and allow the joint to heal as a false joint. This surgery will be $2,800 per hip with 10 weeks in between each hip. Without this surgery he will have 1 maybe 2 years maximum before he is completely crippled and will need to be euthanized.
We have been told by many to just euthanize him, get a new dog and that it isn't worth it. Of course, we could do that. But if you saw him with our girls, how he loves them, how gentle he is. If you saw how him and my one year old are inseparable. If you saw how obedient and eager he is to learn. You would understand why we can't just give up on him. I cannot look into those big brown eyes and tell him I won't do everything I can to help him. I cannot tell my girls that I won't try to save their puppy. All I ask is if you cannot donate to please share Thunders story.
