530 Mile Ride for Cancer Research!

Donation protected
Cancer impacts everyone in some shape or form, whether it is a loved one, friend, or even ourselves. To further fight cancer, research is necessary to find a cure.  One such place that is continuing this effort is Roswell Park Cancer Institute.

To support their continuous efforts and those fighting, a charity ride, Empire State Ride, was created to raise money for this important  research. This grueling 6 day, 530 mile ride from New York City to Niagara Falls brings awareness to this ongoing fight.

When: July 29 - August 4, 2018
Fundraiser Deadline: June 30, 2018

                                                                 Who are we?

Although I am fortunate to not have experienced the impact of cancer directly, I have witnessed its affects on close friends and their loved ones. The commonality I admire is the radiating strength to fight the ultimate battle with such bravery and will that no matter the circumstances, life is lived to the fullest.

This 530 mile ride is metaphorically similar. Each mile is brutal and punishing, and as the miles increase, fatigue begins to set in. However, if you focus on your surroundings - the beauty of nature, the smell of the morning rain, the support of others' around you - you will realize that the life you have been given is magnificent. Then, you will push yourself to go that next mile and climb that steep hill because quitting is not an option.

I am riding to support those fighting cancer, those holding the hands of loved ones who are going on round 1 or round 30, for researchers frustrated as yet another experiment fails, for those who have been taken too early, and so those in the future won't have to fight.

There are no words to relay the importance of this event and I hope you will consider supporting us monetarily and/or spiritually. Thank you!

Ryan Hochdorf
Howdy! First introductions- my name is Ryan Hochdorf. As stated above, cancer has impacted people I love. My mom is a two-time cancer survivor. Personally, I have witnessed how it has impacted our family, the stress and emotional toll it brought. But, I am so thankful for the cure she received, which I know was brought about by research. Unfortunately, not everyone shares a similar success story. I have seen how it has taken a precious life, like my wife’s aunt before her time.

Now, you might ask “Why does a 42 yr. old desk jockey decide to embark on a 6 day, 530-mile bike ride?”  Simply, I want to end this disease! I want to do more than just give to a charity; I want to have some ‘skin’ in the game.  I am riding for my mom, my wife’s aunt and friends I know impacted by this disease. Please help me in this journey either by monetary means and/or lifting up myself and all the riders participating in this challenge. Thank you for your help!

How will the funds be used?
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The majority of the funds raised will be allocated to our team's fundraiser goal, while a small portion will help support our participation (e.g. transportation, bike rental) in this event.

Tell Us Who We Are Riding For!
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
When you donate, please let us know if there is someone you want us to ride for (please post the name in the comment section). We will be carrying a list of names. Each morning we will hold a roll call to remind us who we are cycling for and we will lift up each name in prayer.
