Medical Costs for Mike Sklarek

Wednesday September 10th Mike Sklarek fell asleep on the couch as he frequently does. What was different this time was that he started sleep walking and happened to open the door to the basement where he tumbled down the wooden stairs. His wife Joyce heard him fall down the stairs and when she ran to see what had happened, Mike was lying at the bottom of the landing. He was taken to the hospital by ambulance and very quickly the family realized how grave the situation was.

Mike broke and fractured multiple vertebrae which consequently required them to perform immediate surgery to stabilize his vertebrae and spinal cord. It was very clear that even after the six plus hour surgery he would never have feeling from the chest down. Due to the trauma of the fall and the surgery his vitals did not know how to react and therefore he had to be heavily sedated, put on a ventilator, feeding tube etc. There were multiple complications and surgeries that have come up due to the severity of the situation and at this point, no one can know for certain what will transpire.

His wife Joyce has been extremely strong throughout this sudden, life changing event. On top of the fact that this two income family has quickly and definitely turned into a one income family, the extent of the medical bills to come is sure to be overwhelming. Even with his medical insurance there is no way it will cover such extensive bills.
Mike and Joyce are full of love, have an amazing family that cares about them, and both have worked very hard all of their lives. Please pray for Mike and his family as they strongly move forward through this trying time.
