Emmie Rae's Broken Heart

Hello, my name is Emmie (it’s Emmie Rae when I’m being mischievous), and I need your help!! I was a very special Christmas puppy surprise when I came to live with my new family on December 31st. After a few short weeks, I have adapted to my surroundings and have found love like you can’t imagine and a new best friend named Rylie that is a 2 year old version of me. I am happy, feisty and full of life!!
On January 27th, we discovered that I have a broken heart – I was born with a congenital heart defect, Patent Ductus Arteriosus . Commonly referred to as PDA, it’s a disease that will kill me before my 1st birthday IF left untreated. While in the mother’s womb a blood vessel exists to allow blood to bypass the lungs. In most puppies this vessel closes shortly after birth. Mine did not. The good news is that I can have a surgical procedure done by the awesome cardiologists at Bay Area Veterinary Specialists in Houston, TX. They can close the extra vessel that’s causing me this trouble and I can go on to live a very long and NORMAL healthy life.
As with any surgery, human or animal, the procedure is expensive. The early estimate, including all pre-surgery visits, surgery and a hospital stay, is between $3,500 and $4,500. We simply do not have the funds available to help Emmie with this surgery. With her normal puppy vet bills and the bills to diagnose her condition, we have already paid $1,500. We will do everything we can to save this precious little life. For those of you that understand, you will know that Emmie is more than just a little puppy to us; she is a part of our family. And just as we would fight to do whatever we needed for a family member, we want to fight and do whatever we can for Emmie! Never in a million years would we have seen ourselves in this situation but here we are and our hearts are broken. We appreciate any help you can provide, any donation amount, or even just spreading the word to other animal lovers or organizations out there that may help!
