Emmet Graves Restoration

In 1803 the iconic Irish rebel Robert Emmet was executed for leading an uprising against British rule in Ireland. Robert and his brother, Thomas Addis Emmet, were unlikely rebels as they came from a wealthy Protestant family, but they always insisted on equal rights for Catholics and independence for their nation. Thomas Addis was imprisoned for his part in the 1798 Rebellion, and after his brother's death he came with his family to the United States in 1804.
Thomas Addis Emmet went on to become New York State Attorney General, and his descendants lived remarkable lives while always supporting Irish independence. For generations the women of the family have been artists, while several of the men became lawyers, politicians, doctors, and American soldiers - Colonel Robert Temple Emmet was awarded the Medal of Honor for his bravery on the battlefield, and it is his family plot near Iona College at Beechwoods Cemetery, New Rochelle that needs graves restored. Once restored, I will see to it that these graves are maintained and appropriately commemorated – for this independent project, which is being sponsored by the American Legion, the Ancient Order of Hibernians, and Iona College, I am setting out to raise $10,000 which will cover restoration, landmark posting, and future maintenance. Written permission from the descendants of Thomas Addis Emmet and the Board at Beechwoods Cemetery has been received. All donations are appreciated.
