Hi, I’m Emily, and this is my story.
I was labeled a boy at birth but my body never felt like mine. I didn’t know what to do about it, so I pretended to be that boy until I was in my forties — when I let Emily finally come out to meet the world.
Of course it wasn’t easy, but I thought I would feel finally liberated. Instead I’m dealing with a ticking body clock and a world that still misgenders me.
I’ve realized it’s OK to ask for help. I want to raise funds for procedures — and several of them need to be done as soon as possible, since I am transitioning in middle age, a time when hormone therapy becomes less effective.
Here’s the plan:
Phase 1 : Initial consults and Laser Hair Removal Full Face/some body $3,600
Phase 2 : Gender Affirming Surgery : 17,000
Total $19,500
My goal is to raise the funds as soon as possible so that I can get started on procedures in the new year. I’ve met with my surgeon and other healthcare providers to get on their schedules, because without insurance covering their time doctors require deposits up front.
I’ve been alone with this struggle for 40 years. If you can join me, even in a small way, it would mean so much. Together, we can help the world finally see me as I’ve always seen myself — as just Emily.
