Emergency Support for Abuela Vin
Donation protected
Hello, everyone. My Abuela (Abuela Vin) in Puerto Rico had a heat stroke caused by dehydration, severe heat, and lack of access to blood pressure medication. As a result, she fell and broke her hip and was rushed to a local hospital running on generators. She had major surgery and because of limited resources was immediately discharged home.
She lives in the town of Coamo, which is a small town in the south of Puerto Rico that was ravaged by Hurricane Maria and has yet to receive assistance. My family's home is in disrepair. My Abuela has dementia and my Aunt Antonia, who is taking care of her in her own home, has Lupus and is also very ill. Both of their homes took heavy damage.
We are brought to tears by the amount of people willing to support our family in this time of despair. My mother (Abuela Vin's daughter) will be flying to Coamo in the next 7-10 days and we are hoping to raise enough to buy sourly needed medical supplies & medicine, sanitary items, food & water, fuel, batteries, generator, water filtering systems, tarps and general construction items. We hope to repair her home enough so she can safely heal there. Donations are greatly appreciated especially because cash is the main form of currency while banks and roads are reestablished.
This is Puerto Rico’s and our family's reality. The outpour of support from friends and family have offered us some hope in the face of so much helplessness.
Thank you so very much.
