Emergency Land Repair Funds

This fundraiser is labelled under accidents and emergencies, but this is not an accident. This is targeted and intentional destruction of Syilx land from settler violence. Our friend Odessa, who is Syilx, moved back to their territories full time last year, along with partner, V.

Odessa and V have been living in and developing their property to be a community hub and space for community. This work has been on-going for the past five years. They are now calling upon their various communities and those in their realms to help through what has been an unexpected and devastating loss. Odessa and V's sacred living space has been upheaved in an act of unfathomable malicious colonial violence that has left the land in a state of major need of repair and regrowth. 

Odessa and V were off the property during an ongoing dispute with non-Indigenous tenants over inappropriate use of Indigenous land. They expected that the tenants may retaliate however are devastated and heartbroken over the magnitude of destruction and violence the tenants left in their wake.

As you can see in the photos below, the previous occupants used heavy machinery to destroy Odessa and V's home, along with their sense of security and safety. Below is a list of damage:

- hydro cables torn out of the ground, power box destroyed (there are now open wires in the ground and BC Hydro needs to come assess the safety of the grounds)
- septic systems clogged with clay and rocks,
- well has been tampered with to an unknown extent
- utility shed (where the bathroom was built into) ripped apart and destroyed


Odessa and V have been living in Odessa's traditional lands in their trailer, which was fortunately left untouched. However, because of the destruction to power lines and well, their trailer is currently un-livable due to their basic resources being destroyed.

It will take upwards to $50, 000 to restore what the land was to its former state, and repair water and power lines. Below is a list of whats needed.

* indicates high immediate importance 

Firstly, a generator, secured gated entrance, and security cameras are needed to power Odessa and V's trailer and to allow them to stay in their home with a semblance of safety. This land was always meant to be a safe space, it was, and it will be again.
