Emergency! Injured Dog Vet Bills

Please Help!

My friend was alerted by some acquaintances that a dog had been hit and was laying in the road March 9 afternoon around 5 pm. (Video of Dog found on side of the road) Hoping someone closer to the scene would be willing to rescue, she waited, only to find out that around 10 pm the poor dog was still there. When we arrived around 12 AM we searched and what we found was devastating. She was laying on top of a rice sack, clearly one of her legs was broken, she was thin, and it appeared that someone had previously owned and neglected her.  She has severe collar burn where overtime, a collar chafed and eventually formed a callous on her neck, there is no hair there anymore all the way around.

She is extremely dirty and has most likely never had a bath in her life.

Around 1 am, we brought her into the emergency vet where she was shrieking and obviously in so much pain. What we found out:

We decided to bring her to Pendragon Veterinary Clinic. She underwent blood tests and a whole-body x-ray (to check if there are other hidden fractures). The results:

1. Complete fracture of the right tibia-fibula -surgery/amputation is the only option

2. Left hip dislocation (surgery is recommended because simply popping it back in may cause it to dislocate again. Without surgery, the leg can naturally adapt to the dislocation. But keep in mind, the right leg might be amputated so this will be a great challenge for the dog)

3. Positive for Ehrlichiosis, which is a type of bacteria that infect dogs and other species worldwide, Ehrlichia is commonly transmitted by ticks and can affect the blood clotting time in dogs if left untreated. (this means she is at a high risk for bleeding. The surgery will be risky and someone will have to monitor her closely postop)

We need help with the payment for surgery and confinement. We are only students and it is impossible for us to raise enough money for this dog on our own. We have to raise the money within this week so that Pumpkin can have the surgery ASAP.

We stayed in the clinic until nearly 5 am and everything cost us 9,000 Pesos ($180 USD) already. This may not seem like a lot in dollars but we are both college students living in the Philippines.  We couldn’t get an estimate for the surgery yet because the surgeon was not there at the time and there is another consultation fee for P560 ($11.20) + the needed liver and kidney tests on top of it. We can only imagine how much the surgery will cost and this is where we really need your help. Unless we get to raise the funds for the surgery, we might have to consider putting an end to her misery and alleviating her from further pain. This won’t be easy since we have grown to love her in the short time she’s been with us.

It aches us to have to ask for help at this time, but it really is all that we can do. Pumpkin is in a great deal of pain and we would like to put her comfort and quality of life our first priority.

Thank you so much and I hope we can all work together to save Pumpkin’s life.
