this is an emergency request to crowdsource funds for adequate housing. being unashamed to ask for what i need is a quality i’ve been extremely proud of these past two years. however my story is really sacred to me, and it’s become extremely hard to constantly put myself on display. i’m pushing through a lot of fear to make this last effort to secure funds before i become unhoused on february 28th, in six days.
it’s black history month!!! please help a black queer enby secure safe, adequate housing so i can finish school, start my career and live an authentic life.
i’ve been in a cycle of inconsistent housing for six years. i moved back to brooklyn after being displaced and unhoused in 2019 to attend a dramatic arts conservatory in may 2021. immediately after moving into a sublet i discovered i was scammed out of $1.6k, which i documented here. i moved again sept 2021 under the impression i’d sign a lease under a cosigner. my landlord ghosted me and never gave me a lease, therefore i became a squatter. our home had mold before i even moved in, the rooms are illegally sized, the management switched companies with little notification, and the landord has visited unannounced several times. i started school two days after moving, and dropped out three weeks later due to racial abuse and gaslighting by my professor, the president and title ix coordinator. i was very private about this experience, but it completely shattered and broke me. the past four months i’ve worked extremely hard to dig myself out of the large dark hole i was in—mentally, emotionally, spiritually, and financially. five months later, i now have to relocate again. i’ve been out of work since the recent covid spike due to many positive cases at an already large capacity manhattan tourist attraction. i’m urgently searching for a job so i currently have no income. there’s a current housing crisis in the city, so i’m having difficulty finding an available home. i’m hoping to meet my goal so that i can pay for first month’s rent and deposit, as well as moving costs. i can create a breakdown of costs as soon as i secure a place.
