Recently, our dear friend, Brother Donald Paul, had emergency cardiac surgery to restore a greatly compromised bloodflow to his heart. Those of us in the Greater Bangor/Bucksport area know and love the Brothers well -- they are ordained Franciscan Brothers of St. Elizabeth of Hungary and their monastery is located in Bucksport, Maine. For nearly 20 years, the Brothers organized and ran a fantastic bakery and lunch spot that supported the monastery -- in the last year, they closed the Bakery and re-focused their efforts on brewing fantastic artisanal beers, finally opening a Tap Room in their adopted hometown. Brother Donald is the "Chef de Cuisine" of their new and extremely popular Tap Room in Bucksport and, due to this unexpected turn of events, that had to be closed until he can return full steam. You can imagine the costs associated with running not only the Tap Room, but the work of the monastery, that the other Brothers are now shouldering as well -- with Br Don temporarily "out", the financial burden is immense. Add to that the costs of hospitalization and surgery -- yikes! Br Donald's medical bills are close to $150K at this point!!!! Needless to say, Brother Donald could certainly use whatever help we could all provide. Please give as you can and know that your prayers are, as always, essential in his continued healthy recovery. Brother Donald's doing wonderfully and will be back soon -- for which we are ALL thankful!!! Go Brother Donald!!!!!!
