Emergency Brain Surgery Baby Elias

Happy, drinking his milk and playing one minute, in need of CPR the next; Elias’ parents found themselves in the most panicked and scared moment in their life.
10 month old Elias in a moment’s notice became lethargic and unresponsive to his mother Jacie, as his father Adrian called 911 Jacie performed CPR. Shortly after arriving to the hospital by ambulance it was clear Elias would need to be airlifted to a special pediatric hospital.
After arriving the Neurosurgeon immediately inserted a tube into Elias’ head to relieve the pressure on his brain and rushed him into emergency surgery or Elias would not have survived the night. Jacie and Adrian have never been so devastated, never prayed so hard or cried so much in their life.
Elias has Arteriovenous Malformation or AVM, a rare condition that is a tangle of abnormal blood vessels, in his case, found in the brain. He has taken some steps forward, as well as some steps back. He has been taken off the ventilator, but as a result has suffered mini strokes accompanied by seizures. The surgeons have said he is not yet out of the woods, however he is fighting and we are all hopeful for the best. At the very least there will need to be extensive physical, occupational and speech therapy after what looks to be an extensive hospital stay.
