Elmer’s vet bills

Donation protected
Hi everybody here is the story on Elmer. My toddler son and I bought this bottle baby calf off of someone on Craigslist. He was born on May 24 2020 and I picked him up on May 29 2020 late that night in Franklinville NC after work. I was told he was a healthy bottle baby that had his colostrum, when I pulled up to pick him up he was out walking around and the guy was feeding him a bottle so I had no reason to doubt his information. Then fast forward to Saturday morning I began to notice he wasn’t as active and then I noticed maggots coming out of his anus and had a awful smell from his pee. I talked to my vet and gave him some electrolytes and also mixed surplus in his milk. I then took him to work with me come Monday for a exam to see what was going on. Thats when I then found out not only did he have scours he had a infected umbilical cord. I work for a small animal clinic in mount airy Foothills Pet Healthcare Clinic where some amazing DVMs work that also use to work on large animals some years back. They put him on fluids, gave antibiotics and cleaned up the umbilical cord. He seemed to be getting his spunk back so after being hospitalized for 3 days he came home Wednesday night after work he did great then Thursday afternoon after work I noticed he was really weak and acting really funny I decided to rush him to the Healing Springs Large Animal Emergency Clinic in Galaxy, Va. once I arrived the vet did a exam and said he needed to go under for surgery because she needed to remove his naval stump. She put him under to start the surgery and things were not looking so good the infection had made it’s way to the intestines, bladder and liver. She removed as much of the infection she could while cleaning up the rest she sutured him up but wanting me to understand that the damage to his intestines and bladder might be to damaged that there was a chance he wouldn’t make it through the night. I call today  (Friday 6/5/20) @ 11am to check to see how he’s doing after his surgery and the news was not good but the tech said they are very hopeful cause he nursed half a bottle. So I called back again before closing to see if we had any improvements since the last conversation. Got some good news he has started to stand up and move around which literally made my entire day all though he still has a long road to recovery he has been through so much and he’s not even 2 weeks old. I have contacted the guy that I bought Elmer from giving him a ear full about his false information he stated I could bring the calf back dead or alive to get my money back and I didn’t see that as a option. I have literally cried this entire week barely getting any sleep going back and fourth to my job all through the night and morning to be with him. Elmer has been fighting for his life and I’m going to do the same. Unfortunately the vet bill is growing day by day at the emergency clinic while I still have a outstanding bill at my vet for Elmer’s care. If you can not donate please consider sharing. If you don’t want to donate on go fund me you can message me for his information at the clinic to make the donation to them personally or PayPal. Thank you for reading our story.
