Elizabeth Ann Wiseman Scholarship

Donation protected
Elizabeth Ann Wiseman was a young artist and a poet who died in February of 2021. Beth was a beloved daughter, sister, cousin, aunt and friend. She battled mental health issues and addiction, and in creating this scholarship, I hope to provide struggling creatives, like Beth, with the help and support to see their dreams come true.

I've partnered with the 501(c)(3) storytelling nonprofit, Brink Literacy Project , to create a two-fold sponsorship. The first will sponsor the Community Feature in each issue of their literary magazine F(r)iction, and the second will sponsor an intern stipend with Brink’s Publishing Internship Program . The money we raise will provide funds for both the Community Feature and an Internship Scholarship for one year. Anything raised over the goal would go towards subsequent years.

Details on F(r)iction’s Community Feature:

>In every issue, F(r)iction creates a Community Feature by partnering with a nonprofit literary organization, in order to spotlight the work of authors from marginalized populations whose voices often go unheard.

>They’ve previously featured work from the Veterans Writing Project, Lambda Literary, Kundiman, Words Without walls, to name just a few!

>They feature 5 pieces of either flash or poetry (though most often poetry).

> They currently pay each contributor $10 (i.e. $10/page). We would increase the funding to $50 per page. There are 5 authors for each Community Feature, and a total 15 authors for the year across the three issues. We are looking to raise $750 for this section of the sponsorship.

>To acknowledge this funding and the memory of Beth, this connection would be mentioned in the copyright page of each issue.

Details on the Internship:

Interns currently receive a $300 stipend. We would increase that to $1,000 per intern with a total of 2 interns per year. We are looking to raise $2,000 for this section of the sponsorship.

Brink’s publishing internship program seeks to bring underrepresented and diverse voices into the publishing industry itself. Through their fifteen-week program, interns learn the essential ins and outs of the industry and become crucial contributors to the positive social change Brink affects every day.

Potential interns for the Elizabeth Wiseman Scholarship will complete additional questions tailored specifically for this sponsorship.

Comprehensive information about the internship program can be found on these two pages:
