Eliza's SDR Journey

Donation protected
My name is Matthew Vaughan and I'll be cycling (slowly probably!) the Tour of Pembrokeshire in May 2019 to raise money for a very worthy cause.
Eliza Scriven was born at just 29 weeks and as a result of infection suffered a brain injury. As Eliza developed, she was missing milestones. At 18 months she was diagnosed with Spastic Diplegic Cerebral Palsy, this means that her legs are mainly affected. As a result of the CP, her legs are stiff, limiting her mobility and making everyday tasks more difficult.
Eliza is now 4 years old and cannot walk unaided, although she has taken independent steps. In the last year Eliza's physical development has been slow and we have noticed more tasks becoming difficult for her. She gets frustrated when she can't keep up with her siblings and peers. The hope is that Eliza will be able to have surgery in Bristol called Selective Dorsal Rhizotomy (SDR )which will take away Eliza's spasticity (stiffness) permanently. This will allow Eliza to walk more independently, it will enable her to move more freely in everyday tasks and also give her a more comfortable quality of life by taking away pain caused by muscle spasms and stiffness.
Unfortuanely, SDR surgery is not available to Welsh patients on the NHS so all of Eliza's assessments,  the operation, post operative care,  vital therapy and equipment will need to be self funded. Eliza is a candidate for SDR as well as the after care she will need for the next couple of years. We need to raise in the region of £60000 to fund this.Eliza was born a fighter and will keep fighting to have a life without limits.
