Elijah's Medical Expenses

WHAT HAPPENED
On Saturday, January 13th at 4:45pm, Elijah was longboarding and crashed going downhill. The result was a dislocated and shattered kneecap as well as a broken jawbone and the loss of his two front teeth. His lips and chin also required stitching. He was transferred from one hospital to a trauma unit at another that night. The next morning his right leg was operated on and the surgeon was able to pin together his kneecap. The surgeon had thought that it might have been in pieces so small that they would have to remove the kneecap all together. But God answered prayer and it was in fact in three big pieces which he was able to reconstruct.

The following morning, Elijah went in for a second surgery to repair the damage to his upper gums. The surgeon successfully completed a bone graft so that in time Elijah will be able to receive implants - but that will be a couple years away. For now, he will be fitted with temporary teeth (think what many hockey players wear) which will be made to order in a couple weeks. Very soon, he will need braces to which temporary teeth will be installed until he is ready for implants.

WHAT'S NEXT
Upon being released, Elijah will begin the long process of recovery. Elijah is in a knee immobilizer and will not be allowed to bend his knee for the next six weeks. He is also on a soft-food/liquid diet for the next 3-4 weeks to allow for his jaw and mouth to recover. Following this will be physical therapy sessions and all the dental and orthodontic work he will require.

THE FINANCIAL NEED
At his stage, the financial burden is a very rough estimate. We expect that a clearer picture will emerge in the next few weeks - hopefully by the end of January/beginning of February. We will provide updates here as soon as they are available. Any and all financial support raised here will be dedicated exclusively to his medical expenses he has accrued as we all all future expenses.

PLEASE KEEP PRAYING
Please continue to hold up Elijah and our family in your prayers! We need prayer for him and for us as he recovers and deals with the pain and discomfort. We also need prayer for all of us - especially Elijah - as the recovery time ahead is and will be emotionally daunting.
