Eliana's Heart

June 2017 Karl and Kim Hoffman were blessed as they found out that they were pregnant with there first child. During Kim’s 20-week appointment not only did they find out the gender of the child but also that the ultrasound was showing an issue with the development of the baby’s heart. A visit to CHOP and we found out that our little girl has what is called Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome (HLHS) which means that the left side of her heart did not develop correctly. HLHS is now a treatable diagnosis and praise God that we are so close to CHOP. Kim will be able to deliver right there and then our little girl will be able to get the care that she will need with both parents being able to be with her. A few days after she is born, she will have her first of three surgeries, then a second 4-6 months after and then the last between 2-3 years old. After the 3 surgeries, she will still need follow up care with a cardiologist, but the prognosis is positive with a few things they know to watch for. Kim and I thank God everyday for the miracle of are baby girl and we cannot wait until we get to meet her, we are not sure why she will need to go through all that she will but we praise God for it all. We have been tasked with raising and caring for our baby girl and we know it is not going to be easy watching our baby endure the 3 surgeries that she will need. With the diagnosis of HLHS, it is going to bring additional expenses with medical bills, relocation housing, food, transportation, etc. We have felt the presence of God throughout our journey and we know we still will.
We greatly appreciate all the support that can be given but we also ask for your prayers as well.
Prayer
o There is some mild regurgitation in Eliana’s AV valve in her heart. Mild regurgitation isn’t great, but it doesn’t require intervention. Of course, it would best for there to be none so we pray this valve fully heals.
o Pray for a successful surgery and that all goes perfectly for the surgeons.
o Pray for continued peace and comfort for Karl and I in the days ahead.
